Volunteer at Nebowa

Make Camp Possible

Camp Nebowa has always depended on people who are willing to serve.

Every summer, volunteers from churches throughout our region give their time to lead small groups, wash dishes, supervise dorms, lead worship, teach God's Word, run activities, fix things, encourage campers, and fill countless other needs.

You don't have to be a pastor, Bible teacher, or longtime camp veteran to make a difference. Some volunteers spend their week directly investing in campers. Others serve behind the scenes making sure meals are ready, buildings are cared for, and the day runs smoothly.

Every role helps create the kind of camp experience where campers can have fun, build relationships, hear God's Word, and take their next step with Jesus.

Whether you've served at Nebowa for years or you're wondering if there's a place for you, we'd love to help you find a way to serve.

Two main ways to Serve at Nebowa

Serving at Nebowa doesn't only happen while campers are here. Whether you have a week, a day, or just a few hours to give, there are opportunities to help.

Serve During Camp

Join a camp team and help create the experience campers have at Nebowa. Volunteers serve both directly with campers and behind the scenes in roles like small groups, dorms, kitchen, worship, recreation, maintenance, and more.

Camp volunteers apply for the weeks and roles they're interested in, and each camp's dean builds the volunteer team needed for that week.

Work Days & Service Projects

There is work to do at Nebowa all year long. Volunteers help us maintain and improve the property through organized work days and individual service projects.

Projects can include cleaning, landscaping, painting, repairs, construction, seasonal setup and cleanup, or other needs around camp. Individuals, families, small groups, and entire church teams can all serve.

Have a group looking for a project? We'd love to talk about what currently needs done at Nebowa and find something that fits your group.

Serve Together

You don't have to volunteer alone. Serving at Nebowa can be a great opportunity to bring a friend, family member, small group, or others from your church with you.

Whether you serve during a week of camp or come together for a work day, there's something special about serving alongside people you already know—and you'll probably meet a few new ones along the way.

Want to bring a group? We'd love to help you find a place to serve together.

Serve at Summer Camp

It takes a team of people with different gifts to make each week of summer camp happen. Some roles put you right in the middle of a camper's day. Others happen behind the scenes. Both matter.

You don't have to be able to do everything—you just need to be willing to use what God has given you to serve.

Applying to volunteer does not guarantee a placement. Each camp's dean is responsible for building the volunteer team for that week and will determine whether volunteers are needed and where each person can serve best.

Small Group Leaders

Build relationships with campers, lead conversations and devotions, participate in activities, and help campers engage with what they're learning throughout the week.

Dorm Parents

Provide an adult presence in the dorms, help campers settle in, and help keep the dorm clean, organized, and ready for each day.

Kitchen & Meals

Help with meal setup, serving, dishes, dining-room cleanup, and the many behind-the-scenes jobs that keep meals running smoothly. Kitchen service is one of the best places for younger volunteers to begin serving at Nebowa.

Worship

Use your musical gifts to help lead campers and volunteers in worship throughout the week.

Speaking & Teaching

Help communicate God's Word through messages, lessons, devotions, or other teaching opportunities.

Recreation

Help lead games, activities, waterfront recreation, sports, and other parts of the camp day that make Nebowa fun.

Maintenance & Grounds

Keep camp running by helping with repairs, maintenance, landscaping, setup, cleanup, and the unexpected needs that come with a busy week of camp.

Anywhere Needed

Not sure where you fit? That's okay. Some of our most helpful volunteers are simply willing to jump in wherever the need is greatest.

What We Ask of Camp Volunteers

Serving at camp means being entrusted with the care and example we provide to children and students. Because of that responsibility, Nebowa asks camp volunteers to meet a few important expectations.

✓

Follow Jesus & Set an Example

Camp volunteers should be prepared to support Nebowa's Christian mission and live in a way that provides a Christlike example for campers.

✓

Follow Nebowa's Volunteer Standards

Volunteers are expected to understand and follow Nebowa's policies, code of conduct, and expectations for working with campers.

✓

Complete Required Training

Volunteers serving with campers must complete Nebowa's required child-abuse awareness training and any other training required for their role.

✓

Complete a Background Check

Adult volunteers serving during camp must have a current, approved background check before serving.

✓

Serve Where You're Needed

You can tell us which camps and roles interest you when you apply. Each camp's dean builds the team for that week and makes the final decision about volunteer placement.

Coming for a work day or service project? The requirements above are primarily for volunteers serving during our camps. Requirements for other service opportunities depend on the project and who will be on the grounds.

What It's Like to Volunteer at Nebowa

Volunteering at summer camp means becoming part of the camp community for the week. You'll serve alongside people from different churches, share meals together, worship together, and help create an environment where campers can grow.

Meals & a Place to Stay

Volunteers serving during an overnight camp are provided meals and a place to sleep while they serve.

Your Camp Shirt

Every volunteer receives a Camp Nebowa T-shirt for the summer.

Late-Night Waffles

One of our volunteer traditions happens after the campers have settled in for the night: late-night waffles. It's a simple chance to sit down, eat together, and spend some time with the other people serving that week.

Be Part of Camp

Volunteers aren't just there to fill a job. You become part of the week—sharing in worship, camp traditions, conversations, laughter, and the relationships that make Nebowa what it is.

Serve Alongside Others

Camp brings together Christians from different churches and communities. You'll spend the week serving alongside people you may not have known before you arrived.

Camp can mean long days and hard work. It also means good people, meaningful ministry, a camp shirt, and probably more than one late-night waffle.
